Nadula Gardiyehewa

Computer Science at Princeton. I build embedded software for electric vehicles and robotic systems: firmware, CAN networks, and the tooling around them. Most of it runs on a real car.

Low Voltage Lead

Princeton Racing Electric · Princeton, NJ

previously Embedded Software Lead, 2025–26 · Embedded Systems Software Engineer, 2024–25

  • Write C++ firmware for ESP32 nodes that read pedal, steering, battery, and vehicle-state sensors over ADC, SPI, I²C, and CAN (TWAI).
  • Define the car's CAN messages: IDs, data packing, and which node owns what, including the Jetson Orin Nano that acts as the main vehicle computer and CAN gateway.
  • Build the driver dashboard and telemetry tools in C++ and Python on Raspberry Pi and ESP32, parsing live CAN data for display, logging, and diagnostics.
  • Bring up and validate boards on the bench, then on the car, working with the electrical and mechanical subteams. Break work into pieces for newer members and help them debug.

Automotive R&D Engineering Intern

Kenotom · Thessaloniki, Greece

  • Developed automotive ECU software in C on an AUTOSAR Classic stack (ETAS RTA-CAR, RTA-OS) targeting Infineon AURIX TC387 boards.
  • Configured and generated BSW, RTE, OS, and MCAL components, and worked through integration and build issues across the stack, including CAN and BMS-related communication.
  • Learned to debug by tracing signals from application code through the RTE and basic software down to the hardware, rather than patching symptoms.
  • Worked in a multilingual team in Greece through Princeton's international internship program.

leadership

PRE

Low Voltage Lead / Embedded Software Lead

Princeton Racing Electric

Set the low-voltage architecture, prioritize blockers, review and debug teammates' work, and bring newer members up to speed. I usually explain a subsystem from the top down: sensor → microcontroller → CAN message → vehicle network → consuming node, and only then the code.

PRE

Pit Crew Chief

Princeton Racing Electric, 2025–26

Ran the team's garage: tool organization, equipment safety, and EHS compliance, plus maintenance and inventory. At competition, led pit operations, logistics, and trackside repairs.

Robotics Club

Electrical Lead, Autonomous Golf Cart

Princeton University Robotics Club

Lead the electrical side of the club's autonomous golf cart subteam: sensors, embedded hardware, and the actuation that lets software steer a full-size vehicle.
